What exactly is stored?
On your iPhone: your record, source evidence, promise history and repayments in SwiftData, protected by the Face ID app lock. On-device extraction helps with the text when available; no external AI service receives it. The Envelope encryption key is kept separately in device-only Keychain. The readable six-word code is discarded after setup.
In your own iCloud: your app record synced through private CloudKit, when enabled. iCloud sync is not an archive of earlier versions. On a replacement phone, Sign in with Apple restores control of the same Envelope. Its device-only key does not migrate: the original code recovers it. If both code and old key are lost, you can remove the old Envelope or prepare a new one from your restored record and share a new code.
On Remaini’s Envelope server: the encrypted PDF in private Cloudflare R2 storage. D1 holds account identifiers, delivery contacts, subscription status and check-in, delivery and opening metadata. Separate R2 controls preserve the current delivery state and encrypted service metadata across database recovery. A Worker runs the schedule. We can read delivery details; we cannot read your enclosed record.
For encryption: PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 600,000 iterations derives the key. Every PDF update uses AES-256-GCM with a fresh random 12-byte nonce. The recipient decrypts in their browser.
Backups, retention & deletion
Your latest sealed copy stays scheduled after cancellation or uninstalling. Each activation sends once. Returning to the app revokes the old link; re-arm explicitly to start another cycle. After sending, access lasts up to 30 days from confirmed opening and never beyond 90 days from sending. The copy is then removed.
Remove Envelope: cancels future delivery, revokes access links, and deletes the active server copy and delivery details. Your list stays on your phone.
Delete Everything: also removes your account, local and synced app records, app-managed exports and stored keys. Completion is confirmed after required cleanup succeeds; an unreachable server or iCloud account leaves deletion pending. An offline old device clears its app record when it reconnects. Manage your App Store subscription separately.
Deleted service metadata can remain in D1 recovery history for 30 days on the hosting plan selected for launch (7 days on Free). Your encrypted PDF is stored separately in R2. Resend retains delivery-email data under its provider retention policy. Minimal cancellation markers remain to prevent removed Envelopes returning after a restore; a small private iCloud marker stops old devices uploading deleted records. A few practical answers

What does Remaini help me keep track of?
Money you have lent, money you owe, unpaid invoices, and promises with dates attached. Add the details you know and review them before saving. Remaini keeps your own record; it does not verify debts or move money.
Does my friend need to download Remaini too?
No. Your record is yours. You can note a loan or repayment promise without asking the other person to create an account. Remaini’s check-ins remind you to review what happened.
Can I add a voice note or a message?
Yes. Speak or type in the app, paste text, or share text from another app where supported. Review the person, amount, and date before saving. Remaini does not browse your chats or read your inbox.
What happens when a repayment date changes?
Record the new date while keeping earlier promises visible. Record part or full repayment to update the balance without losing the original amount.
How does my chosen person open the Envelope?
During setup, you choose their email address and share a six-word opening code with them separately. After reminders and 21 days without a check-in, they receive an email link. They enter their code on that page to open the sealed record. They do not need the app.
Does my Envelope disappear if I cancel or uninstall?
No. An active Envelope stays scheduled after your trial ends, cancellation or uninstalling. It sends once per activation; another delivery needs explicit re-arming. Fresh content updates require a subscription. Remove Envelope in Settings cancels delivery and deletes its active copy. Retention and independent copies are explained in the privacy section.
Is Remaini free?
Your first eligible month is free, including the Envelope. Then choose $9.99/month or $99/year, renewing automatically unless cancelled. If your plan ends, you can still read, export and manually update existing records. Adding new matters and updating your sealed Envelope require a subscription. The iPhone app is currently in development.
